Key Points to Writing
- PCS/PCA Decorations will be based on EPRs/OPRs
- Achievement
Decorations read like awards, and will need a narrative for justification
- DO NOT plan on making up mid-tour points
in a PCS medal
- Ask for HELP, the only person looking out for #1
is you
- The only person looking out for your Airman is YOU!
- ASK for/WRITE
a Mid Tour decoration
- WRITE!!! The more you do it, the better you
get
- Use F7 to spell check. Errors reflect badly on you and your subordinate!

The following Air Force Commendation Medal (AFCM) for meritorious service example has been taken from a
Word Doc. If needed some location and mission information has been changed to protect myself and the
people I have received the package from. If possible, a little insight
will be given if it has been related.

STAFF SERGEANT
<FNAME> <MI>. <LNAME>
MERITORIOUS SERVICE
2002 TO 2004
Staff Sergeant
<FNAME> <MI>. <LNAME> distinguished himself by meritorious
service an Electrical Power Production Craftsman, 2d Civil Engineer Squadron, 2d
Mission Support Group, 2d Bomb Wing, Barksdale Air Force Base, Louisiana. During
this period, Sergeant <LNAME> consistently demonstrated professional skill,
decisive leadership and initiative as an integral part in the monumental success
of the generator and barrier maintenance programs. He organized training for 51
firefighters on post barrier arresting kit (BAK-12) engagement procedures in
preparation for global deployments. Sgt <LNAME> led the BAK-12 team during
multiple Exercises AIR WARRIOR AND AIR ADVERSARY. His team support enabled close
air support and air control training to over 50,000 DoD and multinational
personnel annually. Sgt <LNAME> revamped the generator operating instructions,
one-line diagrams, and user training criteria and provided training to 165 user
agency personnel at 18 generator sites therefore, ensuring user competency and
safety for mission critical facilities. Sergeant <LNAME> brilliantly led his
generator crew into action after the Space Shuttle Columbia disaster by
providing around-the-clock diesel fuel support for climate control and hangar
security enabling recovery teams to reclaim and process 12,000 pieces of shuttle
debris. His superb leadership of the generator and aircraft arresting barrier
crews greatly contributed to the squadron winning the Air Combat Command Robert
E. Curtin Award for “Best Civil Engineer Squadron” and receiving an
“Outstanding” Nuclear Surety Inspection rating for 2002. The distinctive
accomplishments of Sergeant Carter reflect credit upon himself and the United
States Air Force.
